Verse No. 22
“No age is empty of a truthful tongue for Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and he is a scholar from his offspring who reminds and explains his religion.”
Translation:
God Almighty has quoted Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and said:
“And grant me a truthful tongue among future generations.”
Considerations
Translation:
Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the supplication of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, who said: “And grant me a truthful tongue among future generations.” So he said: “What do these say?” I said: “They say he meant a good reputation.” He said: “It is not as they say; the human being’s tongue among people is verily one who speaks on his behalf, so if he is truthful, he is a truthful tongue for him among future generations, ‘So what is the matter with these people who hardly understand any word?!’” Then he said: “No age is empty of a truthful tongue for Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and he is a scholar from his offspring who reminds and explains his religion until the Day of Judgment arrives.
Translation:
Abd al-Salam ibn Abd al-Qayyum al-Balkhi informed us, he said: I said to Mansoor: “We do not know the intended meaning of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, from these words of him that said: ‘And grant me a truthful tongue among future generations.’” So he said: “Is the tongue with you not something that speaks?!” I said: “It is.” He said: “Then his intended meaning is a speaker from his offspring who speaks on his behalf, so he speaks the truth, and it is like the words of one of you who says: ‘My tongue is so-and-so among you,’ if he speaks the truth on his behalf. So Ibrahim, peace be upon him, asked that God appoints someone for him in every age of future generations who teaches them his Sunnah in a pure manner, so what he asked was granted to him, and he is a truthful tongue for Ibrahim, peace be upon him, among future generations.
