and said: ﴿وَيَعْلَمَ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا مَا لَهُمْ مِنْ مَحِيصٍ[1]; “And those who dispute about Our signs should know that there is no escape for them.” Moreover, it is clear that their skepticism about this text has originated from their sectarian fanaticism and passions, not from a real defect in its chain of narrators or words; because it is not hidden that the chain of narrators of this text is mutawatir, and its words are rational and compatible with the definite texts of God; but rather it is what is clearly required by the definite texts of God about the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet , which makes the matter easy and the speech short; because God has explicitly mentioned the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet  in His Book and clearly expressed His will to purify them from any impurity, which is necessary for their mediation in teaching the original form and the entirety of Islam, and said: ﴿إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا[2]; “Indeed, God wants to remove any impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and make you completely pure.” It is clear that the last will of the Prophet about following them along with the Quran is what is required by this divine purification; because following those whom God has not purified or informed about their purification may lead to impurity and violation of following God, and therefore, it is not rational to make a will about it; whereas making a will about following those whom God has purified and informed about their purification is extremely appropriate and useful, but rather it is irrational to not make a will about following such people if they exist; as God has made affection for them obligatory in Islam and said clearly: ﴿قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى ۗ وَمَنْ يَقْتَرِفْ حَسَنَةً نَزِدْ لَهُ فِيهَا حُسْنًا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ[3]; “Say: ‘I do not ask you for any reward but affection for my relatives,’ and whoever accomplishes a good deed, We shall increase him in goodness thereby; indeed, God is the All-Forgiving, the All-Appreciative”[4].

↑[1] . Ash-Shura/ 35
↑[2] . Al-Ahzab/ 33
↑[3] . Ash-Shura/ 23
↑[4] . This is the clearest and most appropriate meaning of the verse, and it is the statement of the Ahl al-Bayt, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, Amr bin Shu‘aib, As-Suddi, and others (See: Jami‘ al-Bayan by al-Tabari, vol. 25, pp. 33 and 34; al-Mu‘jam al-Awsat by al-Tabarani, vol. 2, p. 336, vol. 6, p. 49; al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir by al-Tabarani, vol. 3, p. 47, vol. 11, p. 351; al-Mustadrak Ala al-Sahihain by al-Hakim, vol. 2, p. 444, vol. 3, p. 172; al-Kashf wal-Bayan by al-Tha‘labi, vol. 8, pp. 37 and 310; al-Kashshaf by al-Zamakhshari, vol. 3, p. 467; Ahkam al-Quran by ibn al-Arabi, vol. 3, p. 190; al-Tafsir al-Kabir by Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, vol. 27, p. 594; Majma‘ al- Zawa’id by al-Haythami, vol. 7, p. 103); as many Muslim interpreters have considered it the preferable saying and what comes to the mind from the verse (For example, see: Umdah al-Qari by al-Ayni, vol. 16, p. 71, vol. 19, p. 157, that he has said: «كما يتبادر الذهن إلى قول سعيد بن جبير», and al-Kashf wal-Bayan by al-Tha‘labi, vol. 8, p. 310, that he has said: «وهذا التأويل أشبه بظاهر الآية والتنزيل»)! The other statement is that although the intention of «قربی» is the relatives of the Prophet but it includes all the Quraysh and is not specific to his Ahl al-Bayt, and it can also mean the necessity for the Quraysh to have affection for the Prophet because of his kinship with them, regardless of the correctness of his claim, while this statement is very weak and nonbinding; because affection of all the Quraysh could not have been obligatory considering the existence of people of disbelief, hypocrisy, and oppression among them; as affection for the Prophet could not have been expected and demanded by him only because of his kinship with the Quraysh and regardless of the correctness of his claim; because such affection is fanaticism of the age of ignorance and in conflict with the ruling of the intellect and the Book of God; as God Almighty has said: ﴿لَا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَوْ كَانُوا آبَاءَهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ أَوْ إِخْوَانَهُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَتَهُمْ (Al-Mujadilah/ 22); “You will not find a people who believe in God and the Last Day having affection for one who is hostile toward God and His Prophet, even though they are their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their relatives.”
